dvd menus and other gubbings

I've never been that interested in how DVDs are constructed, nor have I been overly concerned with encryption on the disk and encoding.

However, lately I have discovered two things that were new to me:

1. DVDs use MPEG-2 encoding
2. You need libdvdcss to read the encrypted bits

Both of the above may be of little interest to you, they certainly were not of much interest to me. I'd rather just watch the film.

You will probably want to use dvdbackup for this.
